Krusty the Clown is a local television personality in Springfield. He is shown in almost every episode of "The Simpsons." His daytime show is geared towards an audience of young children, but the irony is that much of the subject matter is not appropriate for these children's eyes. Take for example "Itchy and Scratchy," the enormously popular cartoon that Krusty airs on his show. This cartoon involves the typical situation between a cat and a mouse where the two just can't seem to get along. This creates the conflict necessary to make the cartoon interesting. However, these conflicts are not the typical ones that are shown in most cartoons. Instead, when these two meet, violence always breaks out and leads to a bloody conclusion. The amount of blood does not phase the children at all. Instead, the more blood they see, the more amused they seem to get. Sideshow Mel, Krusty's assistant, deals with an incredible amount of pain, which somehow brings pleasure to the children. Even though he is portrayed as having intellectual superiority over Krusty, he plays the role of the assistant. Krusty will always perform various antics at the expense of Mel on his show. This includes hitting him with pies and literally mopping the floor with him.
Although Krusty plays an energetic and lovable clown on television, once the cameras stop, it seems as if his personality dramatically changes. He is definitely not a good role model for children because of his outlandish behavior. This includes his tendancy to drink, smoke, and gamble. The show also mentions his community service requirements on occasion. He is also prone to selling out. Almost all of the products with the official Krusty seal of approval are defective and dangerous to the consumer. However, Krusty doesn't seem to be bothered by this fact as long as he's getting paid. He is looked up to by so many youngsters as an entertainer, but he fails miserably as a role model.
