- The first 14 sights, (in DNR survey zone, IC) are denoted by their distance from the Northfield Dam as well as their orientation relative to the banks. For example, 66L is 66 meters from the dam on the left side of the river (facing downstream); 507M is 507 meters from the dam, in the middle of the river. Seven additional sites begin in DNR zone ID at the northern tip of the first island downstream from the dam. These sites are denoted in a similar fashion: 38M = 38 meters from the point on the island, surveyed in middle of the river.
