Taking Pictures with the Kodak
DC120
Taking pictures manually:
- Plug the camera in and turn it on by sliding the lens cover to
the left. It should not be plugged into the computer.
- Adjust the settings to where you want them. Press tab to
choose which setting to change, and select to scroll among the
options. Press enter to make the change. In the upper left of the
display screen is the icon for focus mode: one dot for one-point
autofocus, three dots multi-point autofocus, and a flower for
macro focus mode. The lightning icon is for the flash: 'A' for
automatic flash, the plain lightning for flash always on, and x-ed
out for always off. For more info on the settings, see the
manual.
- If you are using macro focus mode, adjust the focus to the
proper distance using the two buttons on the top left of the
camera. The front button brings the focus closer to the camera,
and the back button sends the focus farther away.
- To take the picture, hold down the pink button on the top
right of the camera. A green light should come on. Hold the button
down firmly until the green light flashes, and you hear the camera
take the picture, or see the flash go off. The picture you just
took should appear on the LCD screen at the back of the
camera.
Transferring pictures to the computer:
- Plug the camera into the wall and into the computer. Make sure
it is turned on.
- Open Kodak Picture Transfer Application. Note that this
program is only installed on the blue G3 in the lab.
- To choose which pictures to transfer, press "Get Selected
Pictures." Open the "Card" folder and select your pictures. If you
don't know which pictures you need, check the preview box to look
at them. When all the pictures you need to transfer are in the
lower box, press "Done."
- Press "Browse" to find the folder where the pictures should be
saved. If you want to make a new folder for them, you can do it
from inside the dialog box.
- Once you've selected the pictures and a folder, press
"Transfer." You will see a miniature image of each picture as it
transfers. This step may take awhile.
- After the transfer, you can find the pictures in the "Card"
folder inside the folder you selected for them. Double-click to
open in Photoshop.
- If you want to erase images from the camera's memory card
after a transfer, use the erase button on the camera. Otherwise,
the pictures will remain on the card (you may find this useful as
temporary backup).
Taking pictures through Adobe Photoshop
- If you are using the dissecting microscope, first screw the
camera into the top of the microscope. Plug it into the wall and
the computer, and then turn it on.
- Open Photoshop, go to the File menu, choose Import, and choose
Kodak DC120. A Kodak dialog box will appear on the screen. Note
that, as above, this option is installed only on the lab G3.
- Get everything ready to take the picture.
- When you're ready, press "Take a picture." You will have to
wait a minute. Then you will see the computer loading the picture,
and finally, it will appear in the upper right of the dialog
box.
- If the picture is satisfactory, click "Transfer." The picture
will open in Photoshop, but will not be saved on the computer or
on the camera. You may save it as you would save any new image in
Photoshop.
