Day One (and a half)
It is 1:50 in the morning on June 14th and we are now
riding a bus to our hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. We
all survived our 12 hour flight from Minneapolis to
Tokyo, although we crossed the international date
line, lost a day, and never saw the sun set on June
12th. We landed in Tokyo and had a two hour layover
before getting on our final 6 hour flight to Bangkok.
One of the pictures I've included with this journal
entry is of our group gathering in baggage claim and
getting ready to go through Customs with our luggage
and 48 storage boxes. Each of the members of our
party of 48 were asked to bring a plastic storage box
to Thailand. They are filled with eyeglasses, Carleton
athletic t-shirts and old uniforms, sweaters, shoes,
and all sorts of goodies for the tribal villages that
we will be staying with next week. We surprisingly got
through customs rather quickly and with no questions
about the boxes!
We are all a little tired but so excited about the
days ahead of us. We have a 7:00 AM wake-up call and
a buffet breakfast before heading off to one of
Thailand's most famous temples.
"Hi" to all our families and friends in the States.
We'll send a new message tomorrow!
