Carleton College Administrator Wins Joseph Pettit Award
David Davis-Van Atta's Work in Institutional Research
is Recognized
Northfield, Minn.-David Davis-Van Atta, the director of
institutional research at Carleton College, recently won the inaugural Joseph
Pettit Award from the Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE).
The award was created to recognize the creative and effective use of COFHE
data by a member institution in the past two years.
Davis-Van Atta was recognized for his work in analyzing financial aid policies
at the 31 COFHE colleges and universities, with special emphasis on the
impact of recent changes in financial aid policies on the admissions process
and students' college choice patterns. Davis-Van Atta used COFHE data to
track institutional policy changes, which both informed Carleton administrators
about current policy and developed a tool that colleagues from other COFHE
institutions can adopt.
COFHE was established in 1974, and is an institutionally supported organization
of 31 highly selective private colleges and universities. Though initially
established to look at financial issues, its scope has expanded into many
areas of interest to administrators of colleges and universities.
