Northfield, Minn.-Dan Bergeson, the director of the Carleton College Bookstore and the St. Olaf College Bookstore, has been promoted to director of auxiliary services and special projects at Carleton.
In this newly created position, Bergeson will maintain responsibility of both college bookstores. His additional management responsibilities at Carleton will include printing and mailing services, the post office, telecommunications and the Sodexho food service. He also will serve as Carleton's liaison with the Northfield community on a variety of future projects.
"Dan brings a wealth of knowledge of the Northfield community as well as experience in higher education," said Barbara L. Johnson, Carleton's vice president and treasurer. "He will serve Carleton in a way that benefits the College, St. Olaf and the community."
Bergeson began his work at Carleton in 1988 as the director of the Carleton Bookstore. From 1995 to 1999, he served as the director of the St. Olaf Bookstore and supervised printing and mailing services and the post office at Carleton. Under Bergeson's direction, earlier this year a branch operation of the Carleton Bookstore, River City Books, opened for business in downtown Northfield.
The appointment was effective July 1, but Bergeson will make a gradual transition into the role. He will immediately begin a search for a new director of the Carleton and St. Olaf bookstores. When the transition is complete, Bergeson will work out of the Office of the Vice President and Treasurer.
