Dave Pallone was the third youngest umpire in baseball history and worked for 18 years as a professional umpire, including 10 years for the National Baseball League. His best-selling 1990 book Behind the Mask: My Double Life in Baseball describes the homophobia present in sports and the challenges he faced. He has appeared on "Larry King Live," "The Phil Donahue Show," "The Today Show," "CBS Morning," and "The Geraldo Rivera Show" among others. He has also hosted his own radio sports show in Boston, Massachustetts and contributed to USA Today.
