Kate Bornstein is perhaps the country's best known transgendered
activist, not to mention an award winning playwright, author, and
performance artist. Her books include Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women,
and the Rest of Us and My Gender Workbook: How to Become a Real
Man, a Real Woman, the Real You, or Something Else Entirely.
Quite simply, Kate wants everybody to understand that male and female is
an outgrown concept, that gender is a rainbow spectrum and everybody is
free to explore it at will.
Kate's performances take form as a collage-- an entertaining
mix of of slam poetry, and monologues, interactive lecture designed
to take any audience on an explorative journey of gender roles, sexuality,
and societal perspectives that shape the individual. Kate challenges
all of us to have the courage to freely be ourselves
Kate will be performing "y2kate: Gender Virus 2000" on April
5th, 8:00 to 9:30pm in the Concert Hall. The Carleton College Bookstore
has graciously agreed to sell books before and after the performance. Kate
will be available to sign books after her performance
The following people and organizations have made this visit possible:
Committee for Study of the Arts, Carleton Student Association, Diane Nemec-Ignashev,
Katie Sparling, and the Women's Studies Department
