Center
for Biology Education, University of Wisconsin (WI). Madison
Summer Research Program in Biology for undergraduates. Twenty to twenty
five students will be placed with individual faculty mentors for 9
weeks this summer to do research. Participants will write a research
proposal, a final paper, and orally present their work at the end
of the summer. To be eligible for the program, a student must either
be a member of an underrepresented ethnic group in the biological
sciences, or attending a small college/university with limited research
opportunities (of any ethnicity). Program offers stipend and covers
travel, housing and meal costs. Application deadline: March 3, 2003.

Charles
G. Koch Summer Fellow (DC). This program provides full-time,
paid internships at a public policy organization in Washington, DC,
where students gain invaluable experience. The 8-week internship includes
a $1,500 stipend and furnished housing, travel expenses, 2 weeklong
seminars on public policy, and career development workshops. For additional

Fikse (WA). Matt Fikse, Carleton Class
of 1987, is offering a Marketing/Promotions Internship during winter
break. His company is a leading wheel manufacturer in professional
motorsports and the high performance automotive aftermarket. He is
seeking a student who has some enthusiasm for motorsports and strong
business skills. Projects may include data analysis, communication
projects, or marketing related projects. 30 hours/week, $11/hour.

Home & Garden TV (DC). Winter Break opportunity:
Part-time, unpaid position working with a new show called Dream Builders
offered by alum Laurie Carkeet '00. This half-hour show profiles new
trends in residential architecture and building in a magazine-style

Institute for
Humane Studies (DC). Journalism Internships are full-time,
paid internships at daily newspapers where students gain invaluable
reporting and writing experience. The 9-week program includes a $1,500
stipend and housing allowance, travel expenses, and a weeklong introductory

Longwood
Gardens (PA). Fantastic internships available for students
who would like to gain practical experience, learn gardening skills,
and study plants amid the world's premier horticultural display. Internships
last three to twelve months and individuals specialize in one work
area. Students may receive academic credit through their institutions.

MOTE
Marine Laboratory (FL). Research experiences for 8 undergraduates
available for 10 weeks in the summer. Students will be paired with
MML researchers contributing to a laboratory-wide, collaborative study
on the health of Charlotte Harbor, and will assist scientists in estuarine
research, develop and complete an independent research project, and
present their research findings in written and oral form. Stipend
of $3,000, housing and transportation are provided. Applications available

Project Vote
Smart (MT). Ten-week internship offered by this national
library of factual information on 13,000 candidates for President,
Congress, Governor and State Legislatures. Student interns will work
in the areas of politics, journalism, communications and computer

Tahoe-Baikal
Institute (Russia, CA, NV). Summer Environmental Exchange
Program will take place at Lake Baikal in Russia and Lake Tahoe in
California and Nevada. The Institute is an international non-profit
founded with the goal of fostering the long-term engagement of young
people in the protection of important natural resources. Participants
will have an opportunity to serve as Americorps volunteers as they
explore topics in ecology and limnology, environmental restoration
and planning, cultural preservation, public policy, and resource economics.
During the ten weeks, students will have the opportunity to attend
discussions with experts, meetings with non-governmental organizations,
