Arecibo Observatory (Puerto Rico). Undergraduates enrolled in a bachelor's degree program during Fall 2002 are eligible for the REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program. The 6 assistantships include a stipend and travel costs to and from Puerto Rico. The students work with staff scientists on projects related to ongoing research or instrumentation development programs. Research may be conducted in atmospheric science, radio astronomy, or planetary radar astronomy. Visit the website or email jtm14@cornell.edu for more information. Argonne National Laboratory (IL). The Summer Energy Research Undergraduate Laboratory Fellowship and The Student Research Participation Program are available for students. Applications are available at online. The deadline is February 7, 2003.

Cannon River Watershed Partnership (Northfield). Three unpaid internships are available with this nonprofit organization to fill the positions of Development/Grantwriting Intern, GIS/Website Development Intern, and Policy and Research Intern. All positions are open until filled, and applications are available in the Career Center. Students must be able to commit to work for at least one trimester.

Dublin Internships (Ireland). Dublin Internships provides internships at a professional level, full-time, international work experience, seminars, orientation, placement for all majors/minors, and programs that fulfill all credit requirements. This is an opportunity to live abroad and experience another culture. For more information email your name, address, name of college, year, and area of interest to mhrieke@eircom.net.

Green Mountain Club (VT). Dozens of paid seasonal positions and numerous internship opportunities are available in Outdoor Leadership, Environmental Education, Backcountry Caretaking, Trail Construction, and many other fields. National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The NASA-USRP seeks applications from rising juniors or seniors enrolled full-time in an accredited U.S. college or university. Applicants must have an academic major or demonstrated coursework concentration in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or physical/life sciences. The program is a 10-15 week research experience at a participating NASA research center. Students must be available to work 10 weeks during the Summer or 15 weeks during the Fall. Students will receive a $5,000 (10-week summer session) or $7,500 (15-week fall session) stipend for the research experience plus one round-trip airfare or ground transportation costs to and from the NASA Host Center. A housing allowance will be provided for students at specific high cost NASA Centers.

National Air and Space Museum (DC). This summer internship program affords college students an opportunity to work behind the scenes on projects that benefit the Smithsonian Museum. Students in all fields of study are encouraged to apply. A commitment of 10 weeks full time during the summer is required. A $3,500 stipend is available to help with housing and expenses. Students may also receive credit for this internship. Application information is available in the Career Center. Deadline February 15.

Organic Consumer Association (MN). OCA is a grassroots, nonprofit public interest organization that deals with issues of genetic engineering, food safety, and organic agriculture. Two interns are being hired to assist with research, writing, grassroots organizing and public interest activism. Interns must work a minimum of 6 months and will receive $100 stipend/week, lodging.
