MINNESOTA STATE SENATE INTERNSHIPS!
On Campus Meeting Wednesday, October 23, 2002

Speakers: Scott Magnuson from the State Senate and Conor Crimmins '03

The Boston Globe (MA). Summer intern program for college students interested in journalism. Most reporting interns will work as general assignment reporters on the metropolitan staff. Others are assigned to sports, living/arts, business, photography, and the copy desk. Application deadline is November 4, 2002.

Cornell University (NY). NSF Summer Undergraduate Research Program offered at the Department of Astronomy. Students in this program work directly with members of the Cornell faculty and research staff on projects covering a range of disciplines in radio and radar astronomy, optical and infrared astronomy, planetary sciences, and theoretical astrophysics. $4,350 stipend for 8-week session, and travel/housing funds are provided. Dow Jones Newspaper Fund (NJ). Over 100 paid editing internships offered to juniors, seniors and graduate students for the summer of 2003. Interns will receive free pre-internship seminars at major schools of journalism, $1,000 scholarships for those who are returning to school, and round-trip travel between seminar, internship and home. Test Prep session on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m., Career Center. Editing Test held Monday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m., Career Center.

Prairie Ecology Bus Center (MN). Non-profit environmental learning center whose mission is to educate the people of southern and western Minnesota about the natural wonders of the region. Learn how to develop and teach outdoor and environmental education programs. Interns will publish a weekly naturalist column in a local paper, and will have opportunities to engage in and learn about digital media production. United States Department of State (DC). Internship objective is to encourage students to consider careers in foreign affairs, to provide students with valuable work experience in a foreign affairs agency, and to aid the Department in achieving its mission. Open to juniors, seniors, or graduate students, the internship includes writing reports, researching relevant issues, and recruiting speakers and specialists for various programs. Both domestic and overseas positions are available, and the length is 10 weeks. These internships are unpaid, and housing is not provided. Deadline is November 1, 2002.
