CAREER CENTER LINKS
Here are some great web resources for you to explore this summer.

CareerSearch. This site allows you to search through businesses and organizations all over the country. This is a great way to find information and contacts. You will find lists of organizations matching the criteria you've selected. Use these profiles to contact them about jobs or internships. Username: carleton; password: career.

Liberal Arts Career Network Internships and Jobs. This is one of the best ways for Carleton students to find internships. Carleton and 24 other selective liberal arts colleges have posted all their available internships on this one searchable website, giving you access to more than 10,000 internships worldwide. Jobs are also posted in this database. Username instructions are on the web page.

Liberal Arts Career NetWORK (Vault). This site contains company, industry and career profiles and guidebooks. Password: lacnhartford.

MonsterTrak. Monster provides job search chat sessions, interviews with people working in various industries, tips on resumes and cover letters, and a job database with over 20,000 positions listed. This site is geared specifically toward entry-level jobs. Click on "Search Jobs and Internships," select "Carleton College," password: career.

WebExchange. This site includes a list of resources compiled by small liberal arts colleges (like Carleton) sorted by job category. It holds links geared toward students and provides information as well as actual job postings. From film to medicine to the environment, this website focuses on some of the most popular topics for Carleton students.

Katherine Farrior '02, has spent the past year as an AmeriCorps VISTA in St. Paul. She coordinates after school programs for elementary kids in a transient, low-income neighborhood. The schools in which she works are predominantly African-American and Hmong. She has to juggle many projects at once, find creative ways to use resources and come up with things to do during the down times-all skills she learned at Carleton. The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees (HERE) International Union, Nationwide
The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union is in the forefront of living wage and right-to-organize campaigns in many cities. We have helped lead the fight for justice on the job and amnesty for immigrant workers. There are lots of exciting opportunities around the country to help hospitality industry workers who are predominantly Latino and Asian immigrants or African-Americans. There are openings with HERE International Union for talented and energetic organizers to work on campaigns in areas such as California, Minnesota, Illinois, New York City, Washington, D.C., and more.

Massachusetts General Hospital, MA
Mass General is seeking a laboratory technician to assist investigators in the Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit in the study of the genetics of psychiatric disorders. Technician will work in the laboratory and assist with genotyping, sequencing, and other lab responsibilities. Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field required. Strong organizational and time management skills, basic laboratory skills, basic computer skills including MS Office; database, programming, and/or system administration skills a plus; previous experience with PCR machines, DNA sequencing, genotyping, and/or DNA extraction a plus. Destination 2010 is a student achievement and scholarship program for selected students in the Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools. The successful candidate will perform administrative, paralegal, legal department management and specific project-based duties for two in-house attorneys. The Working Families Party (WFP), across NY state
The WFP is an independent, multi-racial, progressive political alliance working through elections and legislative campaigns to advance the work of trade unions and community organizations. The WFP is hiring full-time political organizers to help build political power for their members, especially in working-class and minority communities. Organizers build local Working Families Party chapters by recruiting, training and mobilizing volunteer membership to win campaigns; develop volunteer leadership; deepen the involvement of their institutional allies; and plan and organize political campaigns. Health and Social Science Research Careers: Requirements vary by study and may include: data management/PC skills (SPSS or SAS); knowledge of neuroscience or psychiatric assessment instruments; experience in clinical/research interviewing; Bilingual English/Spanish; and experience working with various populations (for example, individuals with HIV/AIDS, mental illness or substance abuse histories; or experience working with children, adolescents, elderly). Department of Psychiatry: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and the Project Director, the research assistant is a critical member of the research team of the STEP-BD Family Experience Study. This study evaluates the impact of caring for a relative with bipolar illness. The research assistant will administer semi-structured clinical telephone interviews to caregivers of bipolar patients; score, check, and enter data on the computer (PC, Access, Excel, SPSS); and maintain and generate ongoing reports using information from the database. Using Excel, the research assistant will maintain weekly tally sheets on site recruitment and interview progress. In addition, the research assistant will review and merge databases weekly from all research sites. Requirements include: previous interviewing experience; excellent verbal, telephone and organizational skills; experience with Excel; attention to detail and the ability to work with confidential records. Experience with the following is preferred: Access, Word; Psychinfo and Medline, SPSS and knowledge of statistics. Qualified candidates may apply online and attach your resume. Bilingual Research Assistant-Medication Adherence in Latinos Study: The Yale University Department of Psychiatry is seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) research assistant for a study identifying differences in medication adherence in monolingual and bilingual Latinos as compared to the general population. The successful applicant will participate in the qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The analyses will be used to develop a culturally sensitive intervention to improve medication adherence in individuals with mental disorders. This intervention will then also be tested. The responsibilities of the research assistant include recruiting study subjects; administering structured and semi-structured interviews and behavioral rating scales to psychiatric patients and other study subjects; recording and compiling research data; assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of quality control systems; ensuring patients keep scheduled appointments and accompanying patients to other appointments when appropriate. Travel to other sites will be necessary. The qualified candidate will be fluent in both English and Spanish, have a valid driver's license and car available for travel to other sites, and be able to work one or two evenings per week when needed.
