WEB LINKS

CareerSearch
CareerSearch is an online database that has listings of over one million employers, including for-profit and non-profit. You can search by industry, location, or keyword. CareerSearch will compile a list of companies matching your criteria. It is a useful tool for exploring what's out there and which organizations are in your area. The username is carleton and the password is career.

Liberal Arts Career NetWORK

The Liberal Arts Career NetWORK, powered by Vault, has an on-line career library full of information including company, industry and career profiles and guides that can be downloaded. The password is lacnhartford.

Web Exchange

Web Exchange is a collaborative project initiated by the Liberal Arts Career Network (LACN), a consortium of twenty-five private liberal arts colleges. Through use of the World Wide Web, the goal is to make available the best information from a wide range of career fields. Each college is responsible for a single career field and seeks to identify quality informational sites pertinent to that field. The result is a dynamic, ever growing library of web links which facilitate the career development process for students.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA ACTUARIAL CAREER/INTERNSHIP FAIR

Carlson School of Management on the University of MN campus
This fair is a great way to create network opportunities between actuarial students and the business community. They hope to provide a mutually beneficial experience to both students and the business community. Companies from around the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area will be in attendance. Companies will be looking for students for fulltime or internship opportunities, as well as informing students about actuarial careers. INSTITUTE FOR POLITICAL SCIENCE
Boston, MA, June 13-Aug. 9, 2003
Washington D.C., June 6-Aug. 2, 2003
United Leaders is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization which works to get young people ages 18-24 years into careers in public service. Their primary method of accomplishing this goal is their Institute for Political Service, to be held in Boston and Washington D.C. this summer. These institutes are composed of nearly 50 students from across the country who intern in government offices, participate in weekly community service, and get the opportunity to meet with some of today's best and brightest political and community leaders. Interns at United Leaders receive housing, two meals a day, and a $2000 stipend. Application deadline is February 19, 2003.

Emily Montgomery, '00,
is the current project supervisor at the Asociacion ANDAR in Honduras. Asociacion ANDAR is looking for a qualified volunteer to supervise a community-based education center for 4 to 6 year-olds and their parents in Cedeno, Honduras, a beach community of 3,000 on the Gulf of Fonseca. They focus on a creative, nurturing, and participatory educational experience that breaks away from the traditional model of Honduran schooling. Matt Fikse, '87,
has a winter break Marketing/Promotion Internship available for Carleton students. Fiske USA, Inc., located in Seattle, WA, is a leading wheel manufacturer in professional motorsports and the high performance automotive aftermarket. They are looking for a student to serve as a Marketing and Promotions Assistant to work on projects related to supplying wheels to professional racing teams. It would be helpful if the person had some enthusiasm for motorsports or the automotive industry and strong general skills related to business. Familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, FileMaker Pro, would be helpful. The ability to undertake multiple projects simultaneously while communicating in the typically clear Carleton fashion is essential! The job is part time, 30 hours per week, and flexible as to start and end dates. Rate of pay will be $11 per hour.

Executive Fellowship Program, CA
Deadline: February 26

The Office of Governor Gray Davis and California State University, Sacramento will sponsor the 2003-2004 Sate of California Executive Fellowship Program. This program gives college graduates interested in state government and politics an opportunity to experience the "real world" of government in the Executive Branch of government. The program is designed to prepare leaders for public careers and promote civic education. This is a paid, 11-month full-time fellowship and gives you 12 units of academic credit toward a graduate degree. Green Corps Fellowship Positions, MA
Green Corps, The Field School for Environmental Organizing, will select 35 recent college graduates for their Environmental Leadership Training Program. As a Fellow, you will spend a year participating in a rigorous classroom training program and coordinating field campaigns with national environmental groups. Newhouse Graduate Newspaper Fellowship and Apprenticeship for Minorities Program, NY
Deadline: February 10

Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications is accepting applications for a master's level fellowship and internship program in newspaper journalism for members of under-represented groups. The program provides free tuition, part-time reporting and editing student internships, a $1,100 monthly stipend, full-time professional internship after graduation for one year as a reporter at a Newhouse newspaper and more. University College of London (UCL) Graduate Scholarships
UCL is consistently ranked as one of the top multifaculty UK universities. Each year, UCL awards major scholarships on the basis of academic excellence to graduate students studying taught and research programs. Numerous scholarships are available for a variety of programs.
