JUNIOR SUMMER INSTITUTE AT PRINCETON UNIVERSITY
Deadline: November 1
The Woodrow Wilson School is pleased to announce the 2003 Junior Summer Institute (JSI) to be held at Princeton University from June 14 through August 1. The goal of the JSI is to help talented students from historically underrepresented groups to prepare for graduate study in public and international affairs. The summer institute provides a rigorous training in policy analysis and serves as a springboard to exciting careers in public service.

UNIVERSITY OF IOWA MEDICAL SCIENTIST TRAINING PROGRAM (MSTP)
MSTP is a combined MD/PhD program providing career pathways for talented students interested in pursuing knowledge in both clinical and biomedical research. The Program effectively integrates clinical and basic science training leading to the combined graduate and medical degrees. MSTP trainees are fully funded throughout their training program, earning a competitive annual stipend, full tuition support, and health/dental insurance.

FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship
Deadline: October 15

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a program that provides college graduates the opportunity to work in Washington, DC, with a public-interest organization focusing on arms control and international security issues. It lasts from six to nine months and provides a stipend, health insurance, and travel costs to Washington. Scoville Fellows may undertake a variety of activities, including research, writing, and organizing in support of the goals of their host organization and may attend coalition meetings, policy briefings, and Congressional hearings. They have written fact sheets, letters to the editor, magazine articles, briefing books and reports; organized talks and conferences, and been interviewed as experts by the media. Many former Scoville Fellows are hired either by their host organization or another group dealing with arms control or peace issues following their fellowships. There is no application form; the application requirements are listed on the website, as are links to the websites of the participating organizations and information on the work of former Scoville Fellows.

Institute for Humane Studies Fellowship
Deadline: December 31

The Institute for Humane Studies awards scholarships up to $12,000 for undergraduate or graduate study in the United States or abroad. Applications will be considered from those who will be full-time graduate students or undergraduates with junior or senior standing in the 2003-2004 academic year, have a clearly demonstrated interest in the ideas of liberty, including individual rights and market economies and are interested in applying the principles of this tradition in their work.

The Center for Citizen Initiatives (CCI), CA
Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP)

The Center for Citizen Initiatives seeks a PEP Program Officer for Community Outreach. The PEP Program Officer secures sponsorship of PEP delegations of Russian entrepreneurs by volunteer and service organizations across the US, and develops and implements marketing strategies vital to the success of CCI's mission. The Program Officer markets the PEP program, researches appropriate training locations, contacts potential PEP sponsors, and develops relationships with service organization professionals to ensure the success of the PEP program. Volunteer opportunities are available in Latin America. Openings are available at conservation and educational sites in Costa Rica, Belize, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico and Puerto Rico. If interested, visit website or email explore@volunteertravel.com.

Minnesota Police Corps
The MN Police Corps is a federally funded training program designed to address violent crime by increasing the number of officers with advanced education and training to community patrol in areas of great need. Training will be demanding and realistic. They will provide you with the ability to be an outstanding police officer, as well as teach you skills that will last a lifetime. The MN Police Corps is currently accepting applications from college juniors, seniors, and recent graduates.
