St. THOMAS MEN AND WOMEN CAPTURE MIAC TRACK TITLES
Northfield, Minn. – St. Thomas swept the 2002 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Carleton College yesterday and today, winning both the men’s and women’s crown for the second year in a row.

Luke Speltz (Jr./Gustavus Adolphus) posted a NCAA automatic qualifying score of 54 feet 6 inches in wining the shot put, as well as placing first in the weight throw.

Other repeat winners were Tom Kreger (Jr./Hamline) in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs, and Mike Baker who won the 800 meters and set a new meet record of 1:27.47 in the 600.

There were no automatic qualifiers on the women’s side, but Megan Daymont (Jr./St. Olaf) set a new meet record in the 1000 with a time of 2:54.92, as well as winning the 1,000 and 1,500 meter runs.

Repeat winners were Heidi Vogel, (Jr./St. Thomas) who won in the 55 and 400 meters as well as placing second in the 200, Nicole Peterson (Fy./Gustavus) in the 3,000 and 5,000 and Lindesy Weis (So./Gustavus) in the triple jump and high jump.
