Dundas, Minn., May 5- Mike Honsa shut down St. Olaf for eight innings as St. Thomas (27-11) captured the second round of the MIAC Postseason Baseball Tournament here Friday, winning 4-1. St. Thomas now is 2-0 for the tournament, while St. Olaf (32-4 overall) drops to 1-1 in tournament action.
Honsa (6-2 overall) pitched a complete-game seven-hitter, allowing just one earned run, that coming in the ninth inning. The Tommies struck for one run in the first inning, after Jake Mauer singled and scored on a passed ball and an error. St. Thomas consolidated its lead with two runs in the eighth inning, as Mauer drove in Tom Wilberg with a single and Nate Sundberg drove in Matt Buzzell with a sacrifice fly. St. Olaf scored once in the ninth, but couldn't overcome Honsa and the Tommies' three-run lead.
Mauer was 2-for-5 for the game with an RBI, while Paul Rafferty was 2-for-4 with a double. St. Olaf pitcher Charlie Bookins took the loss to fall to 7-1 on the season.
St. Olaf now plays Macalester, a 13-11 winner of Bethel Friday
evening, Saturday at 1 p.m. in Dundas, with the winner advancing
to face St. Thomas at 4 p.m.
