Dundas, Minn., May 7 - St. Thomas captured the inaugural MIAC Baseball Tournament title here Sunday with a 2-1 win over St. Olaf, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament in the process.
Tournament MVP Mike Honsa pitched four innings in relief of starter Brian Toov, who pitched five scoreless innings for the win for the Tommies. Both pitchers were throwing on one day's rest, after pitching nine innings (Honsa) and eight (Toov) on Friday in first-round action.
The 2-1 win came after St. Olaf forced a second final game on Saturday with a 13-8 victory over the Tommies. St. Thomas (28-12 overall) went 3-1 for the tournament, while St. Olaf (34-5) went 3-2.
