Carleton Alum to Compete in 2008 Olympics TONIGHT
Carleton alum Philip Dunn ’93 will be competing in the 50 km Race Walk tonight (6:30 p.m. CDT) at the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, China. NBC's Olympic website states that video footage of the race will be shown with various other events on the USA Network during the 1-7 a.m. (CDT) time slot on Fri., Aug. 22. This will be Dunn’s third trip to the Olympics. He has competed in the race walk in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004 where he finished 28th and 35th, respectively.

Baseball: Guevin Shines in Summer League Play
Carleton ace Ethan Guevin carried his outstanding junior season into the summertime as he helped the Lehigh Valley Catz to one of the best seasons in their storied history. The Catz are members of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL), a wood bat summer league comprised of some of the top players from colleges and universities across the country.

Football: Drew Ziller Named to Preseason Division III All-America team in Lindy's Magazine
Carleton College senior defensive back Drew Ziller was named to the preseason Division III All-America team by Lindy's College Football 2008 Preview. He led all conference players with 88 tackles during the MIAC portion of the season a year ago and will again play a crucial role for the Knights this season.

Volleyball: Knights Earn AVCA Team Academic Award
The Carleton College volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches' Association's (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 season. It was the fifth time in the last six years that the Knights earned this recognition.

Women's Golf: Trio Lands on NGCA All-American Scholar Team
Katrina Wood, Sarah Ingebritsen and Laura Knutson were named to the National Golf Coaches Association's (NGCA) All-America Scholar team. The trio maintained cumulative grade-point averages of at least 3.50 and competed in at least 66 percent of Carleton's matches this past year. Wood and Ingebristsen earned the award for the second time while rookie Knutson was a first-time honoree.

Knights Earn Academic All-Conference
The MIAC has announced its list of academic all-conference honorees for winter and spring sports, with 21 Carleton student-athletes earning distinction. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Additionally, student-athletes in basketball, baseball, softball and tennis must compete in half of their team’s contests, while those in swimming & diving and track & field must qualify for the conference finals.

Trio Ready for 'C' Club Hall of Fame Inductions
Three new members will be inducted into the 'C' Club Hall of Fame during Carleton College’s Alumni Reunion Weekend activities on Saturday, June 21 at the College's Great Hall at 12 p.m. The 2008 induction class includes track and field All-American Lisa Kelly ’88, two-sport standout Scott Hanks ’93, and basketball great Scott Krohn ’93.

Men's Swimming and Diving: Marschall Named Academic All-American®
Junior Ted Marschall was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Men's At-Large Third Team in recognition for excellence in the classroom and in competition. He is the 11th Carleton student-athlete to receive Academic All-America® honors and first since 2005. He was the MIAC's Swimmer of the Year and is a six-time All-American in the water, earning the distinction in all three individual events at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

Baseball: Incoming Knights Excel
Head coach Aaron Rushing should be enthusiastic about the newest group of players added to the Carleton baseball program. The class of 2012 includes a number of players that finished their outstanding high school baseball careers in style, both in Minnesota and around the country.

Carleton Alum Passes Away
Carleton alum, Mike Steel ‘97, age 33, passed away on July 16, 2008, in a tragic boating accident on the Tongue River Reservoir in Montana. At Carleton, Steel was a four-year starter for the Knights' football team and was a member of the Knights’ baseball team. He was named All-MIAC honorable mention in football in 1995, and was a leading tackler for the Knights in 1996. Steel graduated from Carleton with honors, and went on to graduate with honors from the University of Wyoming Law School.
