Carleton Alum Phillip Dunn '93 Completes Third Olympics
Carleton College alum Phillip Dunn ’93 competed in his third Olympic games on Thursday, finishing 39th in the 50km race walk in Beijing, China. He posted a finishing time of 4 hours, 8 minutes and 32 seconds. He previously participated in the Summer Olympics held in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004) where he finished 28th and 35th, respectively. Dunn, the lone American in the 61-man field, crossed the finish line with his arms raised, then waited to greet Augusto Cardoso of Portugal who finished another 28 seconds later. NBC's Olympic website states that video footage of the race will be re-shown with various other events on the USA Network during the 1-11 a.m. (CDT) time slot on Fri., Aug. 22.

Ballinger Seventh in 400 Hurdles at NCAA Championships
Junior Tom Ballinger broke his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles as he earned All-American honors--for the second consecutive year--at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He placed seventh in the finals of the event, finishing in 52.16, nearly a half-second faster than his previous mark.

Carleton Alum to Compete in 2008 Olympics TONIGHT
Carleton alum Philip Dunn ’93 will be competing in the 50 km Race Walk tonight (6:30 p.m. CDT) at the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, China. NBC's Olympic website states that video footage of the race will be shown with various other events on the USA Network during the 1-7 a.m. (CDT) time slot on Fri., Aug. 22. Additionally, this NBC link appears to offer a live online feed during the race and some in-progress resuls. This will be Dunn’s third trip to the Olympics. He has competed in the race walk in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004 where he finished 28th and 35th, respectively.

Knights Earn Academic All-Conference
The MIAC has announced its list of academic all-conference honorees for winter and spring sports, with 21 Carleton student-athletes earning distinction. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Additionally, student-athletes in basketball, baseball, softball and tennis must compete in half of their team’s contests, while those in swimming & diving and track & field must qualify for the conference finals.

Ballinger Advances at Nationals
Carleton College junior Tom Ballinger finished third in his heat during the preliminary round and advanced to the finals of the 400-meter hurdles at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Knights Compete at Last Chance Meets
A few members of the Carleton College men’s track and field are participating in “last chance” meets in advance of next week’s NCAA Championships. Senior Joe Sepe recorded the third-best 5,000-meter time in Carleton history, while Mark Felice and Charlie Gamble raced to top 10 finishes at the NCAA Qualifier.
