Hey Guys!!

Last Week, I got to know 11 beautiful souls who were also first-year students. Throughout the course of the week, my NSW (New Student Week) Group really formed a close bond. Soon we all started to spend time together outside of activities we were required to do. As NSW came to a close, we went on several adventures around Northfield.

First-year Students Navigating Northfield

One of our trips included a visit to the dining hall at St Olaf. (Fun Fact: Carleton’s meal plan includes access to St. Olaf’s Dining Hall). There was a shuttle that takes us to directly to our “rival” school, St. Olaf College, we decided it would be good to walk 1.5 miles instead.

Our Journey there seemed long and endless, but was very fun. After we climbed the hill we saw a beautiful view of Carleton, and of course, we took a picture. We started to goof around and let’s just say it turned into a mini-photoshoot.

Here are the results:

Bonding Time

Mini-photoshoot check, next on the list Dining Hall. After climbing more hills and a couple flights of stairs we got the disappointment of our lives; our meal plan didn’t start until the following Monday. Now we were tired & hungry but certainly not cranky, we started to walk towards campus and that’s where the adventure began.

We passed a park with giant chimes and started to play them like the amateur musicians we were. Then we saw a dog giving himself a walk. Yes! he held his leash in his mouth and walked carefree in front of his owners, I wish I was that independent.

Anyways, right before arriving on campus, we saw a gratitude tree. It caused me to stop and think about what I was really thankful for. What did I write? “I am thankful for Group 10.” Looking Back, I am glad that I had the chance to meet these people and can call them my friends. Here’s to the four years.

Jevon is a first-year student from the Big Apple. Other than defending that he is an authentic New Yorker (he’s from Long Island), Jevon spends his time immersing himself into Carleton’s vibrant student social atmosphere. He is considering majoring in biology or chemistry, either way, Jevon has plenty of time to decide.
